Green Tea Infused Cucumbers – Hello Bright Eyes!

Work, stress, lack of sleep, genetics – whatever the cause, many of us deal with tired looking, puffy eyes and/or dark under eye circles. If you are sick and tired of looking sick and tired you are gonna love this easy, natural home eye treatment!

There is not much to dispute when it comes to Cucumbers and Green Tea, both have well known, well documented benefits for skin (including the delicate eye area). Some experts swear by cucumber slices, others insist tea bags are the way to go; I say, why choose? My Green Tea Infused Cucumber recipe allows you to reap the benefits of green tea and cucumbers simultaneously!

Green Tea Bag (one)
Cucumber (six slices)
Water (six ounces – or a large mug)

Yield: 3 treatments (keep refrigerated – use within 1 week)

Directions: Steep a Green Tea Bag in about 6 ounces of steaming hot water for 10 minutes. Discard the teabag. Refrigerate the tea.

Once the tea is no longer hot enough to cook the cucumbers add in 6 cucumber slices. Refrigerate for several hours so it can infuse and chill. (I like to prepare it before bed or work so it has plenty of time to infuse.)

Ready for rested eyes?

Lay your head back, place one cucumber slice over each eye and just relax for about 20 minutes.

I turn this into a mini spa-like event by turning on my favorite relaxing music (Nora Jones) and preparing a place where I can sit back undisturbed for about 20 minutes (my over sized living room chair). I know – for many of us 20 minutes of peace seems like an unreachable dream, I REALLY KNOW! But if you can steal this time, PLEASE do it. It will be well worth it!

After 20 minutes, discard the cucumbers, gently pat your eyes with a soft towel and while your skin is still damp, apply natural moisturizer.

Results: After one treatment your eyes will look less puffy and feel ohhhhh soooooooo soothed. Honestly, the immediate result is partly due to the coldness of the cucumber and may be short lived. For long term results, treat yourself 2 or 3 times a week. After several weeks you should notice firmer skin, much less puffiness, lightening of dark circles, less noticeable fine lines and a overall brighter appearance. Depending on the intensity of the puffiness and dark circles, it may take as little as 2 weeks or as many as 8 or more weeks to see the best results.

How it works: Green Tea is rich in polyphenols (the most powerful antioxidants), as well as tannin, caffeine and other goodies which are known to reduce swelling, firm the skin and fight skin damaging free radicals. Cucumbers are rich in vitamin C and beta carotene. They are known to cool, soothe, reduce swelling, and hydrate the skin. Over time, cucumbers may also lighten dark under eye circles and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Of course taking 20 minutes to rest your eyes doesn’t hurt either!

Substitution: If you don’t have cucumbers, try potato slices!

Don’t forget …. Beautiful Skin Starts Within
To achieve the best results from any skin treatment, start with the beautiful basics: Hydrate (drink plenty of water), Eat Well (lay off processed foods, eat a variety of natural foods including lots non-starchy veggies, and limit your salt intake), Sleep Well (get a good nights sleep every chance you get), Exercise (at least 3 times a week), Give Of Yourself (do something kind for someone else), and last but not least ~ Be kind to YOU!

Treat yourself well and enjoy~
